Advocating for the conservaton and protection of nature in
El Granada to mitigate local climate change, and preserve wildlife habitat.

Our Mission

EG Advocate’s mission is to advocate for preserving the environment with its sensitive habitat and vital ecosystems in balance with fire safety practices of home hardening and defensible space.

Preventing the Heat Island Effect

Unwanted Effects

Rapid tree removal without replacement can:

  • Dry out the land, increasing fire risk, erosion, and flooding

  • Disrupt local water cycles

  • Reduce carbon capture

  • Destroys wildlife and habitat

  • Habitat loss destabilizes and harms ecosystems and local climate

  • Planting more native and climate resilient trees allows nature to transition gradually and more humanely.

**Gradual tree removal with immediate replanting minimizes ecological disruption, reduces our climate impact, and avoids the cruel effects of sudden habitat loss.

Invitation

We invite you to look through this website, enjoy the beautiful images and information and consider how you might help to conserve this unique environment.

We hope you will add your name to our mailing list and join us in respecting nature by preserving it.

El Granada, California, has the most beautiful vistas in every direction you turn - from the vast, sparkling, moody ocean to the rolling hills filled with miles of trails to hike high into the chaparral. Preserving this gorgeous environment is paramount for ourselves and for the wildlife.

Living With Fire - Creating Defensible Space

In this presentation Todd Lando, Battalion Chief and Wildfire Hazard Mitigation Specialist, discusses defensible space, applicable fire codes and ordinances covering zones 0 - 4, and busts myths as it relates to creating defensible space.

The Power of Trees and Soil

Watch an animation of trees capturing carbon and how the process cools the planet. See a local temperature gun test, proof of how our El Granada trees cool our neighborhoods.

Nature & Climate Change Videos -
Inspiration & Information

We have gathered a collection of videos to illustrate how people are making a significant difference - there is profound hope in what so many people are doing to reverse climate change.

We believe fire resiliency is about working with nature to create healthy, fire safe and climate resilient environments.

Prescribed Fire Burns, Forest Grazing and Silvopasture, Native Plant and Tree Restoration….

Our local San Mateo Agencies work for us. They make changes that effect our environment and our lives, the balance of our climate, the open spaces and the wildlife within them. We encourage coastside residents to express their concerns by writing letters and speaking up at meetings. They need to hear from all of us.
